Dr Karla Hylton enjoys a wealth of knowledge on education, having enjoyed a teaching career spanning twenty-seven (27) years. Karla obtained a PhD in Biotechnology at the age of twenty-five, and in 1999, she landed a full-time lecturing position at the University of Technology, Kingston Jamaica. After a seven (7) year stint at the University, Karla cemented her passion for the classroom and pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Karla continued her lecturing career at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, in Biotechnology.
In 2012, Karla entered the world of entrepreneurship, and founded her own private tutoring company, now known as Your Empowerment Solutions (YES) Institute, specializing in secondary level Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Since its launch, YES institute has enjoyed a 100% pass rate for high school pupils sitting CSEC, CAPE and IGCSE examinations.
Karla’s student achievements have been remarkable, and in 2015, her very own student place nationally in both Biology and Chemistry. And in 2017, Karla had a student placing first in the Caribbean for Cape Biology.
Today, Dr Karla Hylton is a respected authority on education: Karla is a contributing writer to the Jamaica Observer’s Career & Education section, and is a published author with two books, Yes You Can Help Your Child Achieve Academic Success, and Complete Chemistry, a Revision Workbook.
Beyond her scholarly pursuits, Dr. Hylton has ventured into the world of literature, crafting engaging children's books and exploring various genres that captivate readers of all ages.
Her most recent autobiography, "The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in the Pain," delves into the deeply personal and emotional facets of her life, including her own experiences with abuse and the toll it took on her mental and emotional well-being which ultimately led to a journey towards triumph and empowerment.
Karla resides in Kingston, Jamaica, and in her spare time she enjoys, reading and watching a good movie. An accomplished interior designer, she spends time catching up on house interior décor, along with the odd building design.
